What is the Toilet Terrace?
This is the longtime pet project of MSI Plumbing & Remodeling's President, Audra Giese. A lover of all things colorful, she couldn't stand seeing these fun old toilets go in the dumpster. So what started as a small collection of colorful plumbing fixtures that had been pulled by our technicians at job sites, has grown into a larger collection of 15 toilets, 4 sinks, 2 bidets and 2 clawfoot tubs, all in 16 distinct colors.
A 1922 red Kohler tub greets you at our entrance on Route 31 in Lebanon, and the 15 toilets line the way to our main door. We decorate them seasonally and make sure they are getting the respect that they deserve! Most toilets go straight into the dumpster – they explode spectacularly with a good heave! Old toilets especially, not just for the “ick” factor of a used toilet but also because of the current gallon per flush guidelines. You can’t donate used toilets anywhere and as far as I know, there are no recycling programs for them. These old toilets used between 5 and 7 gallons of water, compared to 1.6 gallons of water for our modern day toilet.
Most of the fixtures are the original finish. One toilet (the 2019 Lilac) and both tubs have been painted. In the process of painting the tubs, it was fun to discover while sanding that both tubs had been painted multiple times over the years. We only know the make/year for the one tub because the other is so heavy that we weren’t able to flip it over to check.
