A cold attic is a good attic! Therefore, the most important thing about your attic is to be adequately insulated. Air leaks or inadequate insulation results in ice damming. Check and make sure the insulation covers all areas and is secure. To look for leaks check the bottom side of the roof sheathing and roof rafters/trusses for water stains.
